A recent survey by Great Place To Work® (a leading authority on workplace culture) highlighted the leadership attributes most valued by employees (of all levels). They concluded that great leaders 1) are transparent and strong communicators, 2) provide vision and clarity, and 3) display empathy and approachability. Whilst agreeing with these conclusions, they do raise the question “How do leaders do this in practice?”
It’s 2023 and technology frees us to work and communicate from anywhere, anytime. But many of us don’t feel free. Instead, we’re burdened with “busy-work”, and our frazzled attention spans make it a challenge to focus. “Busy-work” is when you are officially “working” but the work only gives the illusion of productivity, and is actually […]
I wrote recently about the heartening aspects of returning to in-person training. But finally being in a room together isn’t always without its pressures. When you haven’t met in person for a long time there’s the possibility you or your colleagues have changed. You may hold assumptions about each other that are no longer true, […]

On March 23rd, the UK was locked down, and we could not deliver the training.
Buying in training is a commitment, especially if you are a large, international company. There is so much to get right if the training is to be a success. You and your training supplier need to: Define the key learning outcomes. Involve key stakeholders across your various regions. Extrapolate client-specific examples and activities that will […]
Towards the end of last year I was looking forward to working with the leadership team of a charitable organisation. The new Managing Director, who had recently joined the business, knew that the established, experienced team he had in place could be even more effective, productive and fulfilled, if they worked together better. The very […]
There is an ever-increasing number of psychological profiles and surveys on the market, all promoting greater self-understanding and claiming to increase productivity and success. It can be really tough to know where to start. Some people, justifiably, will ask, why bother?
